On 25-26 of January 2012 the Euroatlantic Forum "Ukraine and the EU on the brink of the new Association Agreement: free trade, energy security and democracy" was held in Kyiv.
Forum became a high-quality platform for public and expert discussion on the consequences of the conclusion of Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, which also covers the issue of a deep and comprehensive free trade area. Participants also exchanged with their views on Ukraine's readiness for implementation of the provisions of the future Association Agreement during the Forum.
Besides, during this event the professional discussions were held on the current status of EU - Ukraine relations, particularly in the context of the implementation of domestic reforms needed for further progress towards the EU.
According to some international experts, for the signing of the Association Agreement it is "not so important that Ukraine has an ideal democracy, but the country should demonstrate that it is heading it." At the same time, the Association Agreement will be an appropriate basis for the introducing of EU norms and standards.
Additional information: The Forum was attended by over 300 Ukrainian and international experts on European integration, representatives of NGOs, governmental agencies, foreign diplomats and scholars.
Policy brief “The Association Agreement: a pearl of great value at risk of loss” was presented during the Forum. Partner of IMG Partners Vadym Triukhan took part in drafting of it.
